Springfield Solutions invest in "state of the art" digital printing technology

HP Indigo WS6000Springfield Solutions Ltd has installed an HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press to increase its array of services to customers and enable them to benefit from fast, cost-effective digital label printing.

As one of the UK’s leading decoration, labelling and packaging solutions providers, Springfield Solutions specialises in serving the food, health and beauty, industrial chemicals and paints and coatings sectors. Utilising the capability of its new HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press, the company is providing high-impact, decorative label production for run lengths that were previously cost-prohibitive using conventional flexography or offset print.

Driven by the HP SmartStream Labels and Packaging Print Server, Powered by EskoArtwork, Springfield’s new HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press is highly efficient. With throughputs of 30 metres per minute for four-colour jobs, the new HP Indigo press enables Springfield Solutions to complete medium run jobs within even shorter time-frames. Customers benefit from these increased speeds with much quicker turnaround times, and, in many cases, superior colour vibrancy than with conventional printing.

“In today’s market, a business like ours must continually diversify and react to customer requirements. The current economic downturn has ensured that our clients are constantly seeking ways to control costs and react quicker to market trends to increase sales potential. With the HP Indigo WS6000, we can help deliver that,” said Albert Dass, chairman, Springfield Solutions.

In 2005, the company installed an HP Indigo press ws4000, later followed by two HP Indigo press ws4500s to offer high-quality, short-run printing. In October, the company upgraded its HP Indigo press ws4000, installing an HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press to increase its digital capabilities.

“We have total confidence that the high print quality achieved by our new HP Indigo press will enable us to continue to diversify our services to win new customers and help us to sustain growth within new markets,” said Dass. “HP understands the label converting business. This is reflected in the design of the HP Indigo WS6000 Digital Press, with its touch screen user interface, ease of operation, increased speed and large-volume ink canisters – these are positive operational features that will inevitably be of benefit to our customers.”

Ready for Food ... and certified to prove it!

BRC/IOP logo

Springfield Solutions is delighted to be able to announce its achievement in securing Category 2 Packaging certification for the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials from the Bristish Retail Consortium. The achievement of the standard is a key strategic milestone for the company. It now enables the business to more aggressively develop its client base in the critical food and drink sectors.

Developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a UK trade organization that represents the interests of the UK retailers, the Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials was developed to assist retailers and manufacturers in meeting their legal obligations.

The standard provides a common basis for the certification of companies supplying packaging to manufacturers and retailers.

Dave Medcalf, Enabling Services Manager at Springfield Solutions, noted that “the requirements of the standard required us to make changes of personal behaviour as well as policy. The key to our success was the integration of the requirements in to our normal business practices. This was not easy at first and required a fair bit of persistence, but now compliance with all of the requirements is natural and instinctive”.
