An Insight into The Rising Star Award & CIM Course Follow Up

Earlier this year, our SEO & Copywriting Executive, Lauryn Hall, received a Rising Star Award from the Printing Charity. 

The Rising Star Award celebrates young talent within the print industry, assisting them in reaching their career goals with significant funding towards training and inspiring the future of print. The awards are the largest awards programme in the UK for the 18-30 age group. 

The award included funding for training, which Lauryn used to enrol on the Digital Copywriting Masterclass with The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).  

Following this training, we asked Lauryn what the experience of the Rising Star Awards experience was like as well as how her course went! 

Why did you apply for the award? 

I applied for the Rising Star Award being relatively new to the print industry. I was eager to better my skills in copywriting for the future of my career and learn more about the print world – past and future. 

How and why did you choose your course? 

I chose the Digital Copywriting Masterclass with the CIM to develop my writing skills and put my existing skills into practice. 

I was looking for an in-depth Copywriting course for my personal progression in digital copywriting, which would enable room for growth in the future of my career as well as allow me to explore my personal passion for writing.  

I also wanted to enrol on a course that was focussed on discussion, experimentation, and practical exercises to help with my confidence both in writing and personally as opposed to a self-led course. 

Tell us about your Digital Copywriting Masterclass! 

The course was interactive and collaborative. During the two days, I had the chance to work with fellow young creatives with various roles in Marketing and Content Creation to write and review copy for a fictitious event. This included: 

  • Social copy 
  • Web copy 
  • SEO best practice 
  • Blog content 
  • Email campaign 
  • Video scripting
  • Digital advertising content 

This will allow me to better my skills in copywriting and SEO, giving me a fresh outlook on ways to consider the audience and intent of the copy. 

Do you have any advice for fellow young people in the industry? 

The Rising Star Awards is a great opportunity to get support on your learning journey while still being in control of which direction you go. The interview process was great, and members of the team helped make sure I was getting the most out of the funding and the most appropriate course for me. 

The awards are also a great opportunity to connect with people in the same position as you – as well as those in different roles. At the awards event in July, I met a great mix of people and had the chance to network with other Rising Stars who both did work similar and different to my own. 

When applying – ensure that you research courses well and make sure that they are the right learning style for you and challenge yourself!
