CLP Regulations – Go digital and save a packet

With new Europe-wide CLP regulations due to come into force in June 2015, companies supplying paints, solvents, cleaning products, adhesives and other chemical substances and mixtures have less than a year to bring their labelling into line. And those with large product ranges may well be stung with huge costs as new plates are needed for every label and piece of packaging requiring reprinting, to ensure their brands are not in breach of the guidelines. But there is another way. Springfield Solutions recently saved one client more than £80,000 by providing an all-digital solution to the challenge of updating its packaging, as compared with traditional printing. With the digital presses fed via the Esko Automation Engine – a sophisticated software system – reprinting labels and packaging does not need to involve the extra cost and time associated with producing new plates. And with a near £1m investment in Europe’s first Screen Truepress Ink Jet L350UV digital label press and finishing line, combined with Springfield Solution’s existing Hewlett Packard digital presses, colour quality is at least on par with traditional printing and in some cases better. So as the deadline to bring all your labels and packaging in line with EU CLP regulations moves ever closer, why not consider the digital route – you will be surprised at just how much time and money you could save.
