SPRINGFIELD Solutions has been awarded the highest grade achievable in the British Retail Consortium’s (BRC) Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials.
The company received an AA grade after their regular annual independent audit carried out by SGS UK Ltd which took place in September this year.
The result builds on last year’s performance which saw the digital printer achieve an A grade in the same category.
The improved result puts Springfield Solutions in a small band of elite companies adhering to the best possible practice of this standard.
Springfield Solutions is subject to the audit as they supply labels for many blue chip Companies within the food and nutraceutical sectors.
For the first time this year, the BRC have extended the scope in the new version of the standard and audits now cover the quality systems related to print packaging controls of a company’s processes.
David Medcalf, Enabling Services Manager at Springfield Solutions, said up until this year, the BRC Standards main focus was on the supply of safe product based on the control of identified hazards and risks.
But the changes in the new standard meant the company had to look more closely at their processes, before the audit took place, and ensure they met the requirements of the new standard.
Mr Medcalf said: “For the time first this year the new BRC Standard requires the quality of our processes and end products to be considered as a key part of the system, and that was a big change. We have had to do a lot of work to ensure we met the new Standard, so to achieve a double A grade the first time round is tremendous news.”
Dennis Ebeltoft, Joint Managing Director of Springfield Solutions, praised the Company’s Quality Assurance team for their work.
“They really have done an outstanding job in ensuring all of our personnel, processes and products are as good as they possibly can be,” he said.
“Achieving such a high grade gives our Customers peace of mind that we adhere to the high standards of the BRC Packaging Standard as verified by accredited independent auditors.”
