In this month’s edition of our ‘Behind the Teams’ series, we spoke to Rachael Laughton. Rachael is a member of our QA team, working as a Quality Assurance Executive. 

We spoke to Rachael to find out a little more about her role at Springfield and the work she does on a day-to-day basis! 

Tell us about your role and what it entails! 

I work as a Quality Executive within the Quality Assurance (QA) department at Springfield Solutions.  

My job role is to help ensure that the Quality, Safety and Integrity of the products we produce is not compromised. This is achieved by numerous procedures and processes that are in place. 

We strive to achieve BRCGS Packaging Materials, ISO9001 and ISO 14001 certifications annually, and everything we have in place ensures we maintain compliance. 

Walk us through a typical day in your role!  

I work as part of a great team in QA! My typical day-to-day duties are forever changing depending on what is required at that time of the month. 

I also work closely with other departments in Springfield to ensure there is a clear understanding of requirements and to make changes as and when required. 

I liaise with suppliers regarding supplier approval and aid the print team to capture and report any supplier non-conformances. 

Can you share any specific challenges or successes you’ve had in your role?  

A year ago, I was asked if I would like to work on the sustainability side of the business. Which as a company, we have faced some great challenges with.   

Even though the government is pushing for all companies to provide their Scope 1, 2 and 3 data, there are no clear guidelines of how this is correctly achieved.

I am proud to be part of the Oh Yes Net Zero campaign for a better Hull, with the objective to accelerate Hull’s progress towards Net Zero. As a part of our involvement in this project, Matt Dass and I were invited to the House of Commons to celebrate and share the learnings from the first year of the Oh Yes Net Zero campaign.
